What Makes a Great Freelance Developer?

This article is less than a 1 minute read

There is no such thing as the perfect Web Developer, and I am far from the most technically skilled.

I still struggle with JavaScript, and I often want to chuck my computer out the window onto Queen St, after struggling through a PHP bug.

But, I’ll tell you what makes you the best developer to your clients, (because that’s what really matters in the end) and it’s service.

I’ve spent the better part of the last 12 years in the service industry catering to high-end clientele and doing everything in my power to create an exceptional experience.

THIS is what running a business is all about.

The biggest truth that I have taken away from my years in catering to high-end clients is that, strangers don’t give a shit about your dreams or goals. They want to know what you can do for them. How you can provide value.

This isn’t a bad thing, or really even as harsh as it sounds. It means it’s time to re-frame what running a Web Development business is all about.

It’s not about what you can do, it’s about what you can do for your clients.

You wanna get better at freelancing and building a business? Get better at customer service. This isn’t about us, it’s about them.
